Place de la Digue

THE PROJECT IN SUMMARY

Launched as part of the Phenix program, an urban renovation program for the lower town of Charleroi, the rehabilitation of the « Place de la Digue » aims to give back to the square a status and visibility to the commercial area. The urban rehabilitation of the square is reflected in a project consisting of two large plateaus : un plateau partly bordered by steps which provide a smooth transition to the peripheral roads, and a smaller plateau which links with the pedestrian street of Dampremy.

The square, designed as a series of tree leaves placed on the ground, is freed from automobile pressure on the surface and reserved for the exclusive use of pedestrians. An underground parking has been set up to accommodate vehicles without compromising the conviviality and the open space character of the new complex.
