Marchica Lagoon

THE PROJECT IN SUMMARY

The Marchica lagoon has exceptional natural assets thanks to the richness and diversity of its ecosystem. The lagoon has been identified as a "Site of Biological and Ecological Interest" of great importance and is also classified as a RAMSAR site (RAMSAR convention for the protection of wetlands, an intergovernmental environmental treaty established in 1971 by UNESCO).

The Marchica Lagoon Special Development Plan is the first plan to regulate the territory on such a massive scale. It defines the main directions of the development of the Marchica for an orderly and coherent development that combines economic and tourist development with the preservation of natural environments and heritage. It contains the essential guidelines for developing the site while preserving it from excessive urbanization, unfavorable to the ecosystem.
