Coeur de ville de Waterloo
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The current state of completely saturated traffic in downtown Waterloo is the starting point for the development of the masterplan. Supported by TRANSITEC, different traffic management plans at two scales (macro and micro) propose, to redirect traffic to the Ring and to create a traffic loop in the heart of the city, thus reducing the space for cars and allowing more pleasant and safe pedestrian movements.
With the realization of Waterloo's Grand'Place, the team placed the grid of public spaces as well as their layout. Several pedestrian cross connections are proposed, crossing the city centre from east to west, through a new open-air gallery. These new crossings will create dedicated pedestrian routes with terraces, restaurants and entertainment set back from the passage of cars.
